Bonteheuwel families receive new homes

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate continues to make progress in delivering housing opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries across the metro. This week, the City handed over 42 more homes to beneficiaries of the Bonteheuwel Infill housing project.

The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim and officials in the Human Settlements Directorate shared the special day with beneficiaries and their families.
‘The R140 million Bonteheuwel infill housing project will ultimately deliver 273 Breaking New Ground (BNG) state-subsidised homes to beneficiaries, with the completion date by June 2026, if all goes according to plan.

‘We are proud to celebrate more handovers with the new beneficiaries of the Bonteheuwel Infill housing project. This project is truly special to me, from breaking ground here in 2024 to handing over keys to beneficiaries a few months later. Every step has been a special one with the community, our Human Settlements teams and partners and it is a joy to see families move into their new homes.

‘The Bonteheuwel Infill project is just one of several housing projects currently under way across the metro - from Gugulethu, to Macassar and many other areas, the City is accelerating delivery for many families patiently waiting for their housing opportunity. Our mission is clear, and we will continue to work hard to assist residents in the city. Every handover is proof that we are moving forward to assist our residents,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Pophaim.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
